Investing For Baby Boomers - 5 Smart Tips

investing baby boomers<br />
Like most of my boomer friends, I’ve watched my hard-earned money invested in the stock market melt away before my eyes. Down 30 - 40 - now 50%!!!

If I were 25 I wouldn’t be so concerned. There’s lots of time for the market to get bullish again when you are only 25. But as a midlifer, time is not so long-term and it’s likely the market will never give back what it has taken away in the time I have left before my retirement. (more…)

Home Safety Concern is Top Priority for Elderly

I got up around 6:45 one morning and made my way to the kitchen to start the day. As I stood at the sink, something caught my eye out the front window. My neighbor’s front door appeared to be open and the screen door was flapping in the wind. This was a bit odd, because the temperatures were in the low 30’s and the north wind was howling… not exactly the kind of weather for leaving the door wide open. I stood there a few minutes to see if someone was coming in or out of the door and had possibly propped it open temporarily. (more…)

Wrinkle Cream - Why You Don’t Need to Use a Prescription

Prescription wrinkle creams do work, the problem I have with them is their unpleasant side effects. I prefer to use natural anti wrinkle face creams.

One example is Retin-A one of the more popular prescription wrinkle creams available today. If you use Retin-A it peels off a layer of dead skin cells making it very effective but the process can leave your skin with redness and inflammation for many weeks. (more…)

Telling Aging Parents What to Do for Their Best Interests

One of the biggest obstacles my clients struggle with is that it may be time to tell their parents what to do. They’ll tell me they’ve asked their parent to do this or suggested they try that and their mother or father hasn’t followed through. They wonder how they should approach it with them now. When I suggest that it may be time to be more direct with their parents, their response is usually, “I can do that?”

There does come a time when you can no longer wait for your parents to act. (more…)

Entering Third Age - Choose One Which Will You Be?

Geezer, old fart, old folk, or shaman, elder and tzaddik: which will you be? in many cultures the elderly are treated with respect and even reverence. In modern day America and other “modern societies” the aged are treated as casts offs. Put away in retirement/nursing homes. We’re no longer important, hip, the only “buzz” about senior citizens is their drain on the economy because of Social Security.

I don’t know about you but as I enter this “Third Age” and look around I see many vibrant, interesting older people still very much with it. (more…)

A Personal Journey of Aging: The Spiritual Dimension

journey of aging spiritual dimension
At a certain point, one’s perceptions of aging become inter- twined with perceptions of oneself. In the experience of aging, my credentials get better every day! As a pastoral theologian, I live in a creative tension between the established dogma and practice of my personal faith on the one hand, and the more generic, encompassing spiritual dimension that is presented here without any primary or specific religious connotation on the other hand.
