Given the widespread use of technology in most occupations, one important issue concerns how the influx of technology will affect jobs for older workers and employment opportunities and the productivity for them. This issue is particularly important for today’s cohort of older workers, as they have not had the same exposure to technology that younger people have had. However, despite cohort differences, technology will continue to be a pertinent issue for future generations of older adults, as technology is dynamic and continuing to develop at an unprecedented rate. Approximately 35% of the factors that influence life expectancy are inherited. Accelerated aging is therefore usually associated with genetic abnormalities. None of the accelerated aging syndromes, however, leads to a uniform, systematic “speeding up” of the aging process. A number of genetic disorders can lead to premature or accelerated aging (also referred to as progerias), including Down syndrome, Hutchinson– Gilford syndrome, and Werner’s syndrome. (more…)

We do not realize the mechanisms of biological aging or the reasons for aging are the limits of the estimated averages life expectancy of people are very empirical. The forces of natural selection with age, as in natural populations, few people survive beyond the age of reproduction. In recognition of these ideas, some would suggest an antagonistic pleiotropy hypothesis that the genes of a disadvantage in a population is not necessary to the reproductive phase, after which take place occur at the population can get.
