Elderly abuse or elderly neglect can be put within the general category of violence that may be designed for different populations (women, children, seniors, etc.). Mistreating the elderly can occur in different areas: community, institution, society, etc. If it occurs on the community level, a category in which you can include it in the domestic or family violence, which also includes child maltreatment and intimate partner violence. Spanning twenty-seven independent countries, the populations represent all possible situations in which people aging. The speed and extent of aging is also high in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The remaining countries (Turkmenistan and Tajikistan in Central Asia, was the northern border of Iran and Afghanistan) are only less than 4 percent of people age over 65 years old. More than 40 percent were children under fifteen years. For every person age sixty-five or older, these countries had 10 kids under 15 years old. (more…)
